Compact efficiency. 22 litres a minute for units, townhouses and 1–2 bathroom homes.

The G22 is the right choice for apartments, townhouses, granny flats, rental properties and any Australian home with one or two bathrooms. It is also the easiest Ginkgo continuous flow unit to fit into a tight side yard or a small outdoor cupboard, and its lower gas input makes it attractive where the gas supply is limited.
A small unit or townhouse should not mean a temperamental, undersized hot water system. The G22 delivers a genuine 22 L/min with the same oxygen-free copper heat exchanger and 10-year warranty as the big units.
At 175 MJ/hr the G22 is the leanest gas input in the range, which matters in flats and rentals where the gas bill is often split between households or capped.
Low NOx emissions mean the unit produces fewer nitrogen oxides at the burner — a meaningful consideration on dense residential streets and in areas with strict environmental conditions.
No bulky storage cylinder, no relocatable pipework, no concrete base. A slim wall-mounted unit frees up the space a tank would have taken in a small yard or garage.
There is no stored water sitting there losing heat overnight. The burner fires when you need it and stops the moment you stop.
IAPMO GasMark certification and lead-free WaterMark approval mean the unit is independently verified for safety, performance and Australian plumbing compliance.
Every feature below is a genuine engineering decision — and every one of them exists to make hot water more reliable, more efficient or easier to live with.
No tank, no standby heat loss, no waiting. Here is exactly what happens the moment you turn on the hot tap.
A precision flow sensor detects incoming water — even at a trickle of 2.0 L/min.
The microcomputer-controlled gas proportional valve meters gas precisely, delivering a steady flame matched to the flow rate.
Hot gas transfers energy through the oxygen-free copper heat exchanger into the incoming cold water.
Microcomputer monitoring holds the outlet temperature steady. Close the tap and the burner shuts off instantly — there is no stored hot water sitting there losing energy.

Good preparation makes for a clean, fast install. Here is what the G22 needs from your property.
IPX4 weatherproof casing is designed for permanent external installation on an outside wall, ideally with a roof or overhang above the unit.
Gas, cold water and hot water connections are all 3/4-inch (20mm) threaded — the standard Australian size, so existing pipework usually connects straight up.
Suitable for normal Australian mains water pressure. A pressure limiting valve is recommended where local pressure exceeds 1000 kPa.
The unit needs a standard 240V – 50Hz outlet for the electronic controls and fan. Your installer will confirm the closest suitable outlet.
The ultra-compact profile makes the G22 one of the easiest units to install in a constrained side yard, undercover area or small balcony enclosure.
Everything Australian buyers and installers ask us most often about the G22.
Yes — the G22 is designed for one to two bathroom households. A single shower draws roughly 8–12 L/min depending on the shower head, and a kitchen or laundry tap adds around 4–6 L/min, so 22 L/min covers a shower and a tap running together with room to spare. If your household regularly runs two showers at once, or you have a large family, step up to the G26.
It uses the same core engineering. The G22 shares the oxygen-free copper heat exchanger, the microcomputer burner modulation, the precision flow sensors, the 10-year heat exchanger warranty, the flame failure and over-temperature cut-offs, and the IPX4 weatherproof casing with the larger G26 and G30. What changes with size is flow rate and gas input, not the safety or the build quality.
NOx (nitrogen oxides) is a by-product of gas combustion. Lower-NOx burners produce fewer nitrogen oxides per megajoule of gas burned, which matters for air quality on dense streets and in areas with environmental conditions. For the household, the practical effect is a burner that meets stricter emissions requirements while still delivering the same 6-star efficiency and 22 L/min output.
GasMark is the Australian certification mark administered by IAPMO, and it means the gas appliance has been independently tested and certified to the relevant Australian and New Zealand safety standards covering gas safety, electrical safety and thermal performance. Combined with lead-free WaterMark and AS/NZS plumbing approval, it gives you the three approvals a gas water heater needs to be lawfully installed in Australia.
Very likely. At 571 mm high × 394 mm wide × 166 mm deep and 19.3 kg, the G22 is a slim wall-mount unit with 3/4-inch threaded connections — the same size pipework most existing installations already have. The main change is that you no longer need a concrete base, a relocatable pipework run or the space a storage cylinder occupied, so many installs are actually simpler than the replacement they replace.
For a small home, a storage tank is particularly wasteful: you are paying to keep a large volume of water hot around the clock, and in a compact space the tank itself takes up a disproportionate share of your outdoor area. A continuous flow unit heats water only on demand, so there is no standby loss, no cold run-out, and it frees up the space.
For a straightforward replacement of an existing unit where 3/4-inch connections are already in place, most licensed gas fitters complete the swap in a few hours. Removing a storage tank often makes the job quicker, because there is no cylinder to drain and dispose of and no relocatable pipework to re-run.
Yes. Integrated anti-freeze heating modules protect the internal pipework from frost, and the IPX4 weatherproof casing is built for permanent outdoor wall mounting. As with any outdoor water heater, correct installation and commissioning by a licensed gas fitter is what makes the frost protection work as intended.
